Replika alternatives, if you were never in it for the romance

Most “Replika alternative” lists are AI girlfriend apps. If what you wanted was somewhere to think out loud without being flirted with, here is the honest shortlist.

If you have searched this before, you will have noticed the pattern: nearly every result is a list of AI girlfriend apps, scored on how little they filter and how good the image generation is. That is a legitimate category and it is not this one. This page exists because a lot of people came to Replika for something much plainer — company, or a place to put a thought — and there is almost nothing written for them.

Why people leave Replika

In roughly the order we hear it, and none of these are faults exactly — they are consequences of what the product is designed to do.

  • The relationship framing stopped being what they wanted. Affection from something that cannot mean it is comforting for a while and then, for a lot of people, quietly stops being. This is the most common one.
  • It agrees too much. A companion optimised to be warm is not going to tell you that the plan you just described is the third version of the same plan. That is fine for company and useless for thinking.
  • The memory felt thinner than the relationship implied. Being called by name is not the same as being remembered, and the gap between the two is where disappointment collects.
  • A product change altered the character. This category has a history of exactly that, and it lands harder than a feature regression normally would, because what changed was a relationship.
  • It was pleasant and nothing changed. Months of conversation and the same situation. For somebody who came to feel better this is fine; for somebody who came to get somewhere it is the whole problem.

What Brihas actually is, and is not

The honest comparison, because the difference is not a feature list — it is a different intention, and it makes Brihas worse than Replika at some of this.

The honest version of the “is this healthy” question

People get asked this about Replika a lot, usually unkindly. The research position is genuinely unsettled: there is reasonable evidence that conversational companions reduce felt loneliness in the short term, and reasonable concern about what happens when the thing you rely on is a product that can be changed or withdrawn — which both Woebot and Youper users found out the hard way, in June 2025 and September 2026 respectively.

The distinction we would draw is not between apps but between directions. Something that makes a hard period more bearable while you rebuild is doing a real job. Something that becomes the reason you no longer need to is a different situation, and the tell is usually whether the rest of your life got smaller. That question is worth asking about any app on this page, ours very much included.

If you are in India, or Indian anywhere

Worth a separate note, because the English-first options above all have the same blind spot. Replika does not do Hinglish, and code-switching mid-sentence is not a translation problem — it is how a lot of people actually think. Brihas handles English, Hindi and Hinglish natively. The India-specific comparison, including Ira by Rumik which is built for exactly this, is on its own page.

If what you wanted was a place to think — private, not flirtatious, and prepared to tell you when you are going in circles — that is the thing Brihas is.

Replika alternatives: common questions

Is Replika shutting down?
No. As of 12 October 2026 Replika is operating normally, run by Luka Inc., with a free tier and a Pro subscription around $19.99 a month. You may be thinking of Woebot, whose consumer app was retired on 30 June 2025, or Youper, which shut down on 30 September 2026.
What is the best Replika alternative that is not an AI girlfriend?
It depends on what you were using it for. For thinking something through and being remembered over time, Brihas — it has no persona and does not do affection or roleplay. For structured CBT-style help with anxiety or low mood, Wysa, which is free at its base tier and the most clinically researched option in general release. Almost every other list answering this query is ranking adult-companion apps, which is why those two are the honest answer and not a longer list.
Is Brihas a companion app like Replika?
No, and the difference matters more than it sounds. Replika is a persona with a relationship to you; it is designed to be present and warm. Brihas has no character at all — it is a thinking partner for work, relationships, money and decisions, and it is built to be useful rather than liked, including by disagreeing with you. If what you valued most about Replika was feeling cared about, Brihas will be a poor substitute.
Does Brihas have a free version?
Yes. There is a free tier you can use without paying, and paid plans start at ₹599 a month — see the pricing page for what each one includes. There is no card required to start and the assessments on this site need no account at all.
Is an AI companion bad for you?
The evidence is genuinely mixed and anyone telling you otherwise in either direction is overclaiming. There is reasonable support for short-term reductions in felt loneliness, and reasonable concern about dependence on a product that a company can change or discontinue — as Woebot's and Youper's users both discovered. The useful question is directional rather than categorical: if the rest of your life is getting smaller, that is the signal, whichever app it is.
Can Brihas replace therapy?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise to make a sale. It is not therapy, not a therapist and not a crisis service. For moderate-to-severe symptoms it is not a substitute for proper care — the anxiety screener on this site will tell you plainly if that is where you are, and point you at help rather than at a subscription.

Brihas is a structured reflection tool, not a medical or diagnostic service. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you are in crisis, please reach a helpline or a clinician.
